The festivals worth your time, where students go out, how to get home at night, and the official agenda that tells you what is on this week.
Updated 2026-06-20
Marseille is one of France's big student cities (Aix-Marseille Universite alone has around 80,000 students), so there is always something on. Here are the recurring events worth knowing, the going-out scene, and - most useful - the official agendas that list what is happening right now.
Recurring events worth knowing
These come back every year in Marseille. For exact dates, always check the official agenda below.
- Fête de la Musique (21 June)
Going out: where students go
In Marseille, the student going-out scene centres on a few areas:
- Cours Julien - Street-art quarter packed with beer, cocktail and alternative bars.
- Le Vieux-Port - Waterfront apéritif spot with bars and a view at the heart of the city.
- La Plaine (Place Jean Jaurès) - Lively, popular district known for intense late-night going out.
Getting home safely at night
Plan how you get home before you go out. Noctambus (RTM) - Night buses (N1, N2) running Thu-Sun nights from the Vieux-Port, plus the Fluobus evening network..
Where to find what is on right now
Events change week to week, so the most useful thing is the live official agenda:
Common questions
How do I find out what is on in Marseille this week?
Use the official live agenda (linked above) - it is kept up to date. University and ESN pages also post their own events. We do not list specific dates here because they change; the agenda is always current.
Are student events expensive?
Many of the big ones are free (street festivals, open-air events, museum nights). University and ESN events are usually cheap or free for members. Budget a little for going out, and use the CROUS restaurants to keep food costs down.
How do I get home at night?
Check the city's night transport before you go out (night buses or late metro/tram, where they exist). Plan your route home in advance, keep some battery, and travel with people you know when you can.
